What’s in the box, and what isn’t

You get both units and everything that connects them. The electrical parts and a base for the outdoor unit are separate, and most installs need them.

  • Outdoor unit, factory charged with R-454B refrigerant
  • Indoor wall unit with its mounting hardware
  • 11.5 ft pre-charged Quick Connect® line set, sealed at the factory. You can’t cut it, so any extra coils behind the outdoor unit.
  • Communication wire and drain hose
  • Remote control and Wi-Fi for the MRCOOL app, Alexa and Google
  • Install and owner’s manual

Not in the box

Code requires a disconnect within sight of the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit sits on a pad or hangs on a wall bracket. Tick them in step 2 above.

Go one size up if the room has ceilings over 8 ft, lots of sun from south or west windows, poor insulation, or it’s a kitchen. A shady, well insulated room can stay at the low end. Full sizing guide

Can you really install it yourself?

Yes, if you can hang a heavy shelf and drill through a wall. The refrigerant lines come pre-charged, so there’s no vacuum pump and no gauges. Most people finish a first room in a day.

  1. Mount the indoor unitScrew the wall plate into studs, level it and drill one hole through the wall.
  2. Run the lines throughFeed the line set, communication wire and drain hose through the hole and hang the unit.
  3. Set the outdoor unitOn a level pad or a wall bracket within reach of the line set.
  4. Connect the Quick Connect fittingsThread them on by hand, then snug them with two wrenches.
  5. Wire the powerCircuit to the disconnect, whip to the unit. Hire an electrician for this part if you’d rather.
  6. Turn it on and testCheck the fittings for leaks, run cooling and heating, then connect the app.

The part people ask us about

The electrical. The outdoor unit needs its own circuit and a disconnect within sight of it. 9K and 12K run on 115V, 18K and up on 230V. The indoor unit is powered through the communication wire, so you don’t need an outlet inside.

If you’ve never added a circuit to your panel, have an electrician do only that part.

How it’s delivered

Freight truck with a liftgate, set down at the curb. It can’t deliver inside gated communities or other limited access locations. It may come in several boxes, so have someone help carry them in.

Box damaged? Refuse only the damaged item and keep the rest. We ship a replacement right away.

If you change your mind

Cancel before it ships and you get everything back except the 3% non-refundable card processing fee. After it ships, email us first. The 3% non-refundable card fee, shipping both ways and MRCOOL’s 10% restocking fee come out of the refund. Return policy

Questions people ask before buying

Do I need an HVAC technician?

Not for the refrigerant side. The line set is pre-charged, so there’s no vacuum pump, brazing or refrigerant handling. You might want an electrician for the circuit.

Can I plug it into a regular wall outlet?

No. Even the 115V sizes need their own dedicated circuit and a disconnect switch near the outdoor unit.

What if my run is longer than 11.5 ft?

Longer pre-charged line sets and coupler kits extend it, up to 75 ft. Check the line set chart in the manual for the part that fits your size. The line set can’t be cut, so extra length coils behind the outdoor unit.

Does it really heat in winter?

Yes, it keeps heating down to −13°F outside. In very cold areas, keep a backup heat source for the coldest nights.

Can I control it from my phone?

Yes, with the MRCOOL app over Wi-Fi, and with Alexa or Google Assistant. The remote works without any of that.

What if it shows up damaged?

Refuse only the damaged item and keep the rest. Tell us and we’ll ship the replacement right away at our cost.

Do you help with the install?

We don’t do installs or install support. Call before you buy and we’ll help you pick the right size. After that, the manual and MRCOOL support are the place to go.

The MRCOOL DIY Easy Pro complete single-zone system pairs one matched outdoor condenser with one wall-mounted indoor air handler and an included 11.5 ft pre-charged Quick Connect installation kit. Choose the capacity for your room.

Capacity and electrical requirements

9,000 and 12,000 BTU models use 115V. 18,000 and 24,000 BTU models use 208–230V. Approximate room-size guidance is up to 400, 550, 800 and 1,050 sq ft respectively; climate, insulation, ceiling height and sun exposure affect sizing.

Manufacturer warranty

Standard coverage: 3 years parts and 5 years compressor. Extended limited lifetime replacement coverage requires enrollment in the paid MRCOOL Care Kit Program and compliance with its conditions. See the manufacturer warranty for coverage, exclusions and eligibility.
