Who makes MRCOOL mini splits?
Short answer: MRCOOL, LLC, an American HVAC company founded in 2014 by father and son Doug and Jason Ingram, with headquarters in Hickory, Kentucky since 2015. Its first product was a DIY single zone mini split with pre-charged line sets, and the DIY line is still what most people know the brand for.
If you're looking into MRCOOL HVAC before you buy, you probably want to know who stands behind the warranty and whether the company will be around to honor it. Here's what MRCOOL says about itself, what we could verify, and what we couldn't.
Where is MRCOOL based?
MRCOOL's headquarters is in Hickory, Kentucky, in the western part of the state. The company was incorporated in Tennessee in 2014 and set up in Hickory in 2015.
It has grown fast. MRCOOL lists 75 employees in 2018, 150 in 2020 and more than 200 by 2022. It began expanding the Hickory headquarters in 2024 and finished that expansion in 2025. In 2024 it also opened its first franchise location, in Massachusetts.
Jason Ingram leads the company as CEO. In a July 2026 announcement he put the company's direction plainly: "We're redesigning equipment to adapt to today's workforce."
How did the MRCOOL DIY mini split start?
The Ingrams had more than ten years in the HVAC business before MRCOOL. In 2012 they started on the idea that became the company, described in their patent as an "apparatus and process for amateur HVAC installation."
That's the whole point of the DIY line. A normal mini split needs an HVAC tech to connect the refrigerant lines, pull a vacuum and check for leaks. MRCOOL fills the line set with refrigerant at the factory and seals it with a Quick Connect fitting, so a homeowner can make the connection with a wrench.

What does MRCOOL make today?
Far more than mini splits. MRCOOL's catalog covers ductless systems (the DIY lines, Advantage and Olympus), ducted systems (Universal, VersaPro and Signature Series), GeoCool geothermal heat pumps, and even fans and water heaters.
Most of those are built for HVAC contractors to install. We sell only the three DIY lines, because they're the ones a homeowner can put in and still keep the warranty:
- DIY Select, from $1,249 (prices as of November 2026): the budget line, 9K to 24K, white or black, 1 year parts and 2 years compressor.
- DIY EasyPro, from $1,487: leak detection, Follow Me, ENERGY STAR on 12K to 24K, 3 years parts and 5 years compressor.
- DIY 5th Gen, from $2,329: the top line, 9K to 36K, multi-zone for 2 to 6 rooms, ceiling cassettes, up to 23.6 SEER2, 5 years parts and 7 years compressor.
All three run on R-454B, heat and cool, and connect to the MRCOOL app. See them side by side on our DIY comparison chart, or start with the single zone systems.
Is MRCOOL made in China?
MRCOOL is an American company, but its own company history doesn't say where each unit is built. Plenty of websites claim to know the factory behind MRCOOL. We couldn't confirm any of those claims from MRCOOL itself, so we won't repeat them.
If country of origin matters to you, check the rating plate on the unit or the label on the box once it arrives. That's the one source that's always right for the system in front of you.
How do you get help from MRCOOL after you buy?
For technical problems and warranty claims, go straight to MRCOOL at support.mrcool.com. MRCOOL's site also lists a support phone number, (270) 366-0457. Manuals and warranty PDFs for every size are on our single zone manuals page and multi-zone manuals page.
Register your system as soon as it's running. The warranty covers a DIY install for the original owner once it's registered, and the lifetime compressor option on EasyPro and 5th Gen also needs MRCOOL's paid Care program.

What if you're still unsure about the brand?
What if I found MRCOOL cheaper on a marketplace?
Authorized dealers sell at MRCOOL's minimum advertised price, so a far lower price deserves questions. Read why an authorized dealer matters for your warranty before you order.
What if I want a pro-installed MRCOOL line?
Lines like Advantage and Universal are meant for an HVAC contractor, who will usually supply the equipment. We don't sell them. If you'd rather do the work yourself, see how Advantage compares with the DIY Series.
