How do I register my MRCOOL DIY mini split for warranty?
Short answer: MRCOOL warranty registration is done online at mrcool.com (Support, then Warranty Registration) and takes about 10 minutes. Have the model and serial numbers of every indoor and outdoor unit, your purchase date and your receipt in front of you before you start. On the DIY EasyPro and DIY 5th Gen, registering is also the first step toward the lifetime compressor option, which needs paid enrollment in MRCOOL Care.
This guide covers MRCOOL warranty registration for the three DIY lines we sell today: DIY Select, DIY EasyPro and DIY 5th Gen, single zone and multi-zone. It is the paperwork side only. If you want to know what each line's warranty actually covers, that is a separate article linked below.
What do I need before I register?
Gather everything first. The form goes fast when the numbers are on your phone, and slow when you are on a ladder reading a label with a flashlight.
- Model and serial number of the outdoor unit. The rating label is on the cabinet. Take a photo of it before you set the unit on its pad or bracket, because some labels end up facing the wall.
- Model and serial number of each indoor unit. On a wall unit the label is usually on the side or under the front panel. A 4-room multi-zone system means four indoor serials plus one outdoor serial.
- Your receipt or order confirmation. MRCOOL's current warranty documents start the coverage clock at the proof-of-purchase date, so this is the most important paper you own.
- The install date and the install address. Use the address where the system is actually mounted.
- The electrician's name and invoice, if one ran the circuit, plus your permit number if your town issued one.
- An email address you check and will still have in ten years.
Why register if the standard coverage starts anyway?
MRCOOL's current DIY warranty documents say the standard parts and compressor years begin at the purchase date. So a fair question is why bother.
Three reasons. The Select and EasyPro warranty documents assign coverage to the original, registered owner, so registration is what puts your name on the system. The lifetime compressor option on EasyPro and 5th Gen requires it. And when you open a claim, MRCOOL support can pull your serials and dates instead of asking you to dig them up while the house is 85°F.
The warranty also covers a DIY install, as long as the system went in per the installation manual and local code. Registration plus your photos is how you show that.
Next: what does the warranty on each MRCOOL DIY line actually cover?
How do I register my MRCOOL DIY system, step by step?
- Finish the install and run the system in cool or heat for a few minutes. Register a system that works, so the install date you enter is real.
- Go to mrcool.com, open the Support menu and choose Warranty Registration. The page is www.mrcool.com/warranty-registration.
- Enter your name, phone, email and the install address. If you are a landlord, put your own details as owner and the rental address as the location.
- Type in the model and serial for the outdoor unit, then for each indoor unit. Read them off your photos and check every character. A 0 and an O look alike on a small label.
- Enter the purchase date and the seller from your receipt. If you bought from us, the seller is Cool Mini Splits.
- Submit, then save the confirmation. Screenshot the final screen and keep the confirmation email in a folder with your receipt.
- If you want the lifetime compressor option on an EasyPro or 5th Gen, enroll in MRCOOL Care at mrcoolcare.com after you register. Read the current terms there before you sign up, since it is a monthly fee.
Don't peel off, paint over or cover a serial label. MRCOOL's warranty documents exclude any product whose serial number has been altered, defaced or removed.
What photos and papers should I keep after I register?
A claim can take a while, and MRCOOL may ask you to run diagnostics or send proof. A folder on your phone and a paper copy in a kitchen drawer cover you either way.
| Keep this | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Receipt or order confirmation | Starts the warranty clock and shows you bought the system new |
| Photos of every serial label | Faster claims, and proof the labels were intact |
| Registration confirmation | Shows you are the registered owner |
| Install photos: wall bracket, line set route, outdoor pad or bracket, connections | The warranty excludes faulty installation, so photos showing you followed the manual matter |
| Electrician invoice and permit | Coverage applies to systems installed to local electrical code and permit rules |
| MRCOOL Care enrollment email (EasyPro, 5th Gen) | The lifetime option only holds while you stay enrolled |
| A simple filter cleaning log | Filter cleaning is your job under the warranty, and a log shows you did it |
When is the deadline to register?
MRCOOL has used different registration windows across product generations, and older articles (including the earlier version of this one) quote numbers that no longer apply. The current warranty document for your line, linked on our single zone manuals page and multi-zone manuals page, is the one that counts.
Our advice is simple. Register the same week the system first runs. MRCOOL Care has its own sign-up terms, so check them at mrcoolcare.com before install day if the lifetime option is part of why you chose an EasyPro or 5th Gen.
What if my situation is a little different?
What if I have a multi-zone system?
Register the outdoor unit and every indoor unit. A DIY 5th Gen multi-zone system with five rooms has six serial numbers, and a missing air handler serial is the most common gap we see.
What if I install it months after I buy it?
Plenty of people buy in spring and install in fall. Coverage still starts at the purchase date on the receipt, so a long gap uses up warranty time. Order closer to your install date if you can. Our warehouse ships in 2 to 4 business days after the order is verified, then 3 to 7 days in transit.
What if I sell the house?
The Select and EasyPro warranty documents say the warranty is non-transferable. The buyer gets the system, and the warranty stays tied to the original registered owner. Read the document for your line if this matters to you.
What if I lost the receipt?
Email us at support@cool-minisplits.com with your name and order details and ask for a copy of your order confirmation. Do this before you need it.
What if something breaks after I register?
Warranty claims go to MRCOOL directly: open a ticket at support.mrcool.com, call MRCOOL at (270) 366-0457, or email support@mrcool.com. Our phone line is for sizing and choosing a system, so we can't troubleshoot or diagnose a unit over the phone.
What should I do next?
If your system is already running, take the label photos tonight and register. It's ten minutes.
If you haven't bought yet, the warranty is one of the biggest differences between the lines: 1 year parts on the DIY Select, 3 years on the DIY EasyPro and 5 years on the DIY 5th Gen. Compare them side by side on our line comparison page, then call +1 (844) 999-9725 (Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM EST) if you want help picking the right size.
