Where to Buy MRCOOL in 2026: Risks of Buying From the Wrong Seller

By the Cool Mini Splits teamUpdated 5 min read

Where is the best place to buy a MRCOOL mini split?

Short answer: Buy MRCOOL from an authorized dealer. You get a new, unopened system, a dated receipt that starts the warranty clock, and someone who can tell you which size fits before you order. Because authorized dealers sell at MRCOOL's minimum advertised price, the sticker is usually the same everywhere, so the real risks of buying MRCOOL from the wrong seller are in the condition of the unit, the paperwork and the service.

MRCOOL DIY systems show up in a lot of places: home improvement stores, big online marketplaces, HVAC supply sites and dealers like us. Most are legitimate. This article is about how to tell the difference, what can go wrong, and what we do as an authorized MRCOOL dealer.

What is an authorized MRCOOL dealer?

An authorized dealer buys new systems through MRCOOL's own sales channel and agrees to sell at MRCOOL's minimum advertised price (MAP). Cool Mini Splits, run by Interactive Group LLC, is one. We sell the DIY Select, DIY EasyPro and DIY 5th Gen lines, single zone and multi-zone, plus the line sets and accessories that go with them.

"Authorized" matters most for one reason: MRCOOL's DIY warranties start at the proof-of-purchase date, and the Select and EasyPro documents assign coverage to the original registered owner. A clean receipt for a new system from a dealer you can name and call is the simplest proof there is.

What are the risks of buying MRCOOL from the wrong seller?

We aren't saying big stores sell fake units. In our experience the trouble comes from sellers you can't identify, or listings that don't say what you're getting.

  • Open-box or returned units. A system that was installed somewhere and taken back out may have been moved from its original install address, which MRCOOL's warranty excludes.
  • Altered labels. MRCOOL's warranty excludes any unit with an altered or removed serial number.
  • Old stock. A listing can look like the current line and still be an earlier generation on a different refrigerant. Every line we sell today uses R-454B.
  • Mismatched parts. Multi-zone indoor units, line sets and outdoor units have to match. A line set with the wrong pipe size won't connect.
  • No receipt you can use. A marketplace seller with a nickname and no address is hard to get an invoice from three years later.
  • No one to ask. A checkout page can't tell you whether a 12K or an 18K fits your 600 sq ft room.

Does MAP pricing mean every dealer charges the same?

For the advertised price, mostly yes. A 12K DIY Select is from $1,399, a 12K DIY EasyPro from $1,599 and a 12K DIY 5th Gen from $2,359 (prices as of November 2026), and you'll see the same advertised numbers at other authorized dealers.

So compare everything else: shipping, sales tax, return terms and whether anyone picks up the phone. If you find a lower advertised price from another authorized dealer, read our price match policy.

Next: what does the warranty on each MRCOOL DIY line cover?

How can I tell if a MRCOOL seller is legitimate?

A few minutes on the seller's site tells you a lot. Here is what we'd look for if we were shopping for our own house:

  • A business name, a street address and a phone number that a person answers during business hours.
  • Current line names spelled out: DIY Select, DIY EasyPro, DIY 5th Gen, with the size, voltage and line set length in the listing.
  • Return, restocking and damage terms written down before checkout, not after.
  • An advertised price at MAP. A system listed hundreds below every authorized dealer is a reason to ask why.
  • A dated invoice emailed to you with the order, showing the seller's name and the model numbers.

If you still aren't sure, ask MRCOOL support whether the seller is authorized before you pay. It costs you one email, and a returned unit you can't register costs a lot more.

To be straight about what we don't do: our phone line is for sizing and choosing a system. We don't give install help or troubleshooting by phone. After install, technical questions and warranty claims go to MRCOOL support at support.mrcool.com, and the manuals are on our manuals page.

What should I check when the delivery arrives?

A DIY system arrives as several boxes: outdoor unit, indoor unit or units, line sets and any accessories. Check them before you sign.

  • Count the boxes against the packing list.
  • Look for crushed corners, holes, or a box that rattles.
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before you sign, and take photos.
  • If one box is damaged, refuse only that box and keep the rest, then text or email us the photos.
  • Open the boxes within a day or two and check the model numbers match your order, including 115V or 230V.
  • Photograph the serial labels now, for your warranty registration.

What if my situation is different?

What if I found it cheaper on a marketplace?

Ask three questions. Is the seller an authorized MRCOOL dealer? Is the unit new and unopened? Will they give you a dated invoice with their business name and address? If any answer is no, the savings may cost you the warranty.

What if I live in Hawaii or Alaska?

We ship there by quote. Send your address and the system you want through our quote request page.

What if I change my mind after it ships?

A change-of-mind return costs real money, so size it right first. You lose the 3% card fee, pay shipping both ways and pay MRCOOL's 10% restocking fee. On a $2,359 12K DIY 5th Gen, that is about $236 in restocking plus about $71 in card fees, before freight.

What if I'm not sure which line to buy?

Start with our DIY Select vs EasyPro vs 5th Gen guide, then call us with your room sizes.

What should I do next?

Measure each room and the line set run from indoor to outdoor unit, then call +1 (844) 999-9725 for sizing before you order. When you are ready, start with single zone systems for one room or multi-zone systems for two to six rooms.

Questions people ask

Where is the best place to buy a MRCOOL mini split?

From an authorized MRCOOL dealer that sells new, unopened systems and gives you a dated invoice. That receipt is what starts your warranty.

Is MRCOOL cheaper on Amazon or at big-box stores?

Authorized dealers sell at MRCOOL's minimum advertised price, so the advertised price is usually the same. A much lower price often means open-box, old stock or an unknown seller.

Does buying MRCOOL from an unauthorized seller void the warranty?

Not automatically, but MRCOOL's warranty starts at proof of purchase and excludes units moved from their original install address or with altered serial labels. An unknown seller makes both harder to prove.

Do you charge sales tax on MRCOOL systems?

We charge sales tax only on orders shipped to California and Washington.

How long does MRCOOL shipping take?

Orders leave our Kentucky warehouse in 2 to 4 business days after the order is verified, then take 3 to 7 days in transit. Shipping is free to the 48 contiguous states.
