Which outdoor unit do I need?

Single zone: match the series, size and voltage of the one indoor unit it runs. Multi-zone: pick the size by how many rooms and how much space.

  • Line sets. Single zone: DIY 5th Gen comes with a sealed 25 ft line set, DIY Select and DIY EasyPro with an 11.5 ft install kit. Multi-zone: one line set per room.
  • Match the series. A DIY Select outdoor unit runs a DIY Select indoor unit, and the same for DIY EasyPro and DIY 5th Gen. Multi-zone is DIY 5th Gen only.
  • Check your circuit. Single-zone 9K and 12K run on 115V. Everything else, including every multi-zone size, needs 230V.

Code requires a disconnect within sight of the outdoor unit, and the whip connects it to the unit. Every outdoor unit sits on a pad or a wall bracket.

Ordered on its own, it ships by parcel, straight to your door. Ordered with a system, it rides on the same freight truck as the system, so everything arrives together.

Box damaged? Refuse only the damaged item and keep the rest. We ship a replacement right away.

Before it ships Full refund, minus the 3% non-refundable card fee.

After it ships Within 30 days, unused and in the box. We deduct the 3% card fee, shipping both ways and MRCOOL’s 10% restocking fee.

Questions

Single zone or multi-zone, which do I pick?

Single zone if you’re replacing the outdoor unit of a single-zone system. Multi-zone if one outdoor unit runs 2 to 6 rooms.

DIY 5th Gen, DIY Select or DIY EasyPro?

Pick the series of the indoor unit it will run, since a single-zone outdoor unit only works with an indoor unit of the same series and size. Multi-zone is DIY 5th Gen only.

Does a line set come with it?

Single zone: yes, a pre-charged 25 ft Quick Connect line set, sealed in the box and can’t be exchanged. Multi-zone: no, each room needs its own line set, up to 75 ft per room.

Can I start a multi-zone with one indoor unit?

No. It needs at least two connected, in a mix on MRCOOL’s matchup chart. 36K indoor units only go on the 48K and 55K.

What circuit does it need?

The single-zone 9K and 12K run on 115V. Every other size, single zone or multi-zone, needs 208/230V.

How cold can it get and still heat?

It heats down to −13°F outside (the multi-zone 55K down to −22°F) and cools from −13°F up to 122°F.

Can I return it if I don’t need it?

Yes, unused and in the box. Email us first and we’ll set it up. The 3% non-refundable card fee and shipping both ways come out of the refund.
